The Trumpet Summons

"Now the trumpet summons us again -- not as a call to arms though arms we need; not as a call to battle though embattled we are -- but as a call to bear the burden of a long twilight struggle, year in and year out "rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation"-- a struggle against the common enemies of man, tyranny, poverty, disease and war itself." A true patriot perserves in this struggle until victory ensues or life expires.

The Trumpet Summons -- Welcome Message

November 2008 resulted in a breakthrough in American Civic and Political life.
For me, it ended four decades of wandering in a philosophic wasteland that began
with the murders of MLK and RFK.

The torch had been passed to a new generation and I, a child of the original new generation and figurative parent or even grandparent of this second "new generation", was still on the scene to lend my support to efforts to go forth and lead the land we love. With a good conscience our only sure reward and history the judge of our deeds let us bring such spirit, conviction and commitment to this endeavor that it lights our country and all who serve it.

This new quest of Democratic, liberal, patriotism will not be concluded in 100 days, nor in 1000 days; it may and probably must extend beyond the term of any administration. It should continue throughout our lifetime on this planet. At this moment in time, however, it is our patriotic duty to begin this glorious effort anew. The Republic, our children and the planet itself depend on us leading the land we love to what Lincoln termed "a new birth of freedom." Let us highly resolve to rise as one people and one nation, indivisible, with liberty, equality, justice and prosperity for all.
